St.Onge was born in Nashua, NH on December 31, 1977. Keith's
parents Claude and Jackie St.Onge along with younger sister Kendra moved
back to their home town, Berlin, NH when Keith was eight. Once establishing their new
residence the family enrolled in the Lake
Umbagog Waterski Club. Jackie's cousin Gary "Swampy"
Bouchard was the show director and brought the family in with open arms!
Keith began knee boarding in the Lake Umbagog Waterski
Club in 1987 at age 9. That summer his Uncle, Clem Bouchard taught
Keith to waterski behind a 35hp Johnson. The ski club was flourishing
with barefoot waterskiers in 1988, which lead to a clinic with World
Champion Mike Seipel. Keith was asked to barefoot off the boom for
the first time and succeeded while stepping off a ski. Keith
entered his first barefoot tournament later that summer and took third
place out of three.
Swampy took Keith under his wing and that following
summer Keith was doing toe-holds, neck and teeth and tumble turns as
well as entering more tournaments. Swampy coached two other
National ranked skiers over the years and as Keith progressed with leaps
and bounds it was time for more professional help. Scott Grey,
producer of Hot Rock'n Feet I&II came to Northern NH for a clinic in
1992. Scott taught Keith all his technical tricks and with a
strong foundation of basics that Swampy preached for years it was a well
paved road ahead!
January of 1994 Keith was invited to the US Team
Trials held in Mulberry, FL. Living in the White Mountain Region
of Northern NH this wasn't going to be easy. It was a shot in the
dark but an opportunity that couldn't be passed! Keith was honored
to participate but not yet ready for the big league. In 1996 Keith
was invited to the US Team Trials once again and was not going to leave
without being a US Team Member. Many people had doubt in the High
School Junior but Keith was determined to prove otherwise! Keith
St.Onge has since skied as a US Team member, which makes six years total
as of 2006.
At fourteen years old a writer from the Berlin
Reporter asked Keith, "What's your dream?" Keith
replied, "I want to be a professional barefoot waterskier, move to
FL and run my own ski school." Since that statement Keith has
accomplished many other goals including, 7 time National Overall
Champion, World Record Holder and World Overall Champion.
With a modest disposition and positive attitude Keith
St.Onge has become a legend at a young age and is the future and staple
of the barefooting world as we know it today.
